I really don't see the MDZ-Rod Seiling comparison. Granted I only saw Seiling for 3 or 4 seasons but his offensive contributions were more in line to what we can expect from Dan Girardi. MDZ is much more gifted offensively and plays a grittier style. Seiling attracted a lot of boo birds in his day. The other thing is MDZ is on the smaller side of his position and Seiling was average.

As far as the D I'm not sure it's a good idea to mess with it too much. Good defensemen are usually hard to find and take time to develop. That we have a good number of young studs back there--and/or not fully developed prospects with high upside means we could easily sell them too cheaply and later on wonder ala Norstrom why the hell we did that.

For now I'm for hanging onto all of Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, Sauer and Erixon and it would take a very good offer to get me to part with MDZ.
