There are many NHL players who stayed in college for 3 years before turning pro. Drew Stafford,TJ Oshie,Matt Carle,David Backes,Brooks Orpik and Paul Martin are just a few examples. Their development was not hurt because they stayed in school instead of turning pro after their sophomore year.

Then you have Kyle Turris who left Wisconsin after his freshman year. Jack Skille left Wisconsin after his sophomore year. They both should have stayed in school if you look at how their careers have turned out. Both are still very young players but they weren't ready for pro hockey.

The Rangers feel Kreider is ready for pro hockey. They don't say ready for the NHL. They say Erixon is NHL ready. Kreider wants to be NHL ready. Needs to be more consistent. If you follow Kreider,he shows up for bright lights but doesn't show up for the games with Northeastern or Merrimack.

"I don't feel like I'm ready for the NHL," the Rangers' 2009 first-round draft pick told Newsday by phone from Kosice, Slovakia, where he's playing for the U.S. team in the World Championships. "Another year [at Boston College] can't hurt."
