If available, I would like to see PG take Duncan Siemens. There have been a lot of detractors over the past 2 months, with his draft rankings being anywhere from Top 12 to mid 30's. However, no prospect drafted at 17 will be in the lineup for at least 2 years, and that development time will help Siemens game.
He has the size and speed to be a very special contributor on the blue line for Montreal for years to come. Question have arisen about his offensive abilities, but he does make a good first pass, and is a good skater, which is an asset for a 6'3" defender. He plays with a physical edge, which means sometimes he is out of position. But all hitters have to learn when to be physical, which comes with experience. He has been compared to a young Scott Stevens, and that upside says to me he is worth the risk. At worst he is a Top 6 defender, but he has the potential to be a devastating Top 2 puck separator, which this team could desperately use.
