There is only Lappy and he can't be replaced. Seriously, there are and have been a lot of players who play a similar game to his, but his all around play, heart, and character just put him on another level. If there was a list of the top role/depth players in the history of the NHL, he would be in the top 5.

I definitely think we need to add some more toughness, grit, attitude, and/or size to the wing position however, whether that is with a guy or two in the top 9, or some character to the fourth line.

Here are some guys I'd be looking at, keeping mind we won't have very much cap space to utilize in the free agents market.

Top 9 forward
Erik Cole (is probably way out of our price range)
Scottie Upshall
Joel Ward (is probably about to get way overpaid but is a nice player)
Raffi Torres
Jaime Langenbrunner
Tomas Kopecky
Chad LaRose

Fourth line / spare forward
Vernon Fiddler
Mike Rupp
Arron Asham
Brad Winchester
Zenon Konopka
Jarkko Ruutu
Chris Clark
Scott Nichol
Adam Hall
Eric Godard (If Shelley is waived)
Cam Janssen (If Shelley is waived

Giving Sestito and Rinaldo a fourth line spot to compete for in training camp is also a real possibility especially with the cap being a big consideration and both guys near the league minimum in salary/cap hit.
