Habs/Avalanche

I seriously doubt Pierre Gauthier makes a significant move this summer. I believe him when he says he wants to maintain a certain stability after the team underwent a major upheaval over the last two years. However, with the rumours of Stastny being shopped, and given the cap going up and low-budget teams having a hard time reaching the cap floor, I wonder if a move is possible. Here's my suggestion...

To Colorado:
- Danny Kristo
- 2012 MTL 1st round pick
- 2013 MTL 2nd round pick
- Scott Gomez

To Montreal:
- Paul Stastny

And here is my reasoning...

Seeing what Philly got for Richards and Carter, who are both better players than Stastny, I think Kristo (Montreal's best prospect not named Leblanc) and a 1st and 2nd rounder for Stastny is reasonable. And although this has no bearing on the trade whatsoever, Stastny was born in the province of Quebec and may welcome a return there.

Gomez's cap hit is $7.357M per year but will only cost $17.5M over three years. This saves Colorado money while helping them reach the cap floor. Gomez would provide a veteran presence for Matt Duchene and the rest of the young Avalanche team, and fill a solid 2nd line centre role.

Have fun discussing.
