Howe was closer to Nicklas Lidstrom than Timonen (and that's not a knock on Kimmo's abilities).

As far as the no Stanley Cup thing goes, the Flyers came within a narrow Game 7 loss of a Cup -- and the outcome of a single game does not make or break a career. Howe richly deserved three Norris Trophies, but was runner up to the likes of Langway, Coffey and Bourque. In terms of all-around, two-way play, the only NHL defenseman better than Howe from about 1982 to 1987 was Bourque.

And then you add the weight of Howe's entire career: 400-plus goals if you combine WHA and NHL careers, made the switch from star winger to Norris caliber defenseman, WHA all-time leading playoff scorer, won a couple WHA championships and played in three Stanley Cup Finals in the NHL, played in the Olympics at age 16, overcame a gruesome career-threatening (and briefly life-threatening injury) and came back the same season, all-time leading plus-minus defenseman in Flyers history, a slew of Barry Ashbee Trophies, enshrined in US Hockey Hall if Fame.

He should have been enshrined years ago.
