Matt Carle

Hi guys,

With the Pitkanen and Bieksa signings today it's looking like the market for Erhoff and Wizniewski is gonna be pretty competitive. As an alternative to handing out a contract with perhaps unfavorable terms, would Detroit be interested in a one year stop-gap? Or perhaps Holland just gets outbid by foolishly large offers. Either way, this is a plan B type of idea.

The idea I'm having is Matt Carle, on an expiring contract for 3.5 million dollars. He has already been a pretty solid Robin to Pronger's Batman, and actually looked reasonably competent in his absence this year (40+ points, mostly even strength). Detroit gets a year to see if Carle can come close to filling Rafalski's shoes, if not they can try again next off season. If so, they can attempt to resign him during the year or whenever.

What is you guys' gut reaction to this? If you were considering going through with it, what would you realistically offer for Carle?
