Neil Smith wasn't thrilled to trade Kovalev. The person who wanted him off the team was Schmuckler. Bottom line, Alex needed a change of scenery (as did Petr) and the trade worked for both teams. This season, Kovalev is the most important forward in the organization. If he fails, so do the Rangers.
