Well, a few problems with this idea:
- Koivu is often injured. Heck, right now he's got a bum leg.
- Koivu's new contract is over $4 million dollars, is it not?
- Some may look at his 70+ point season last year as a bit of a 'career year'.
Especially with injuries, you're lucky to get 60 games out of Koivu some season. That, coupled with his contract, I think you'll find the market for Koivu there, but I do not think that Habs fans would be at all pleased with the returns of a Koivu trade.
It doesn't make any sense to trade the most popular player, and captain of the Habs, for a couple of 'maybe' prospects or a draft pick at the moment. You can't get a stud young player for him due to those conditions I mentioned above. I think it's best for the Canadiens to hold on to him. Especially now, when during the rebuilding process, he will be needed to help keep the ship afloat.
