As a Leafs fan looking at this from the Preds point of view, I can see the logic. Lebda will probably be bought out (no way a team that prides themselves on defense lets this scrub take the ice), taking his $1.5 mil in remaining salary down to $1 mil, so you guys are saving around $6 mil total (over the next 2 years) on Lombardi, who might not play again on his current contract. Obviously Poile figured that the money saved was more valuable to the Preds than whatever Franson could have returned in a non-financial trade, and I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt, he's a very good GM who has to work in a tough situation with an internal cap.

The only way I can see this as a true "Preds management ****ed up" trade is if it was done simply to cover all the extra salary that could be coming from RFA-gate if your RFAs turn into UFAs, which would mean you guys got screwed for sure.
