Another connection to that time was New Jersey sending Tom Kurvers to Toronto for the Leafs' #1 pick in 1991 - more than a year in advance, enhancing their opportunity to draft Lindros. Kurvers initially refused (eventually did) to report to Toronto and the possibility of the trade being altered or rejected existed. The Leafs' first round pick, sent to the Devils, became Scott Niedermayer.
