with debating McGill again, my real problem is that Balej still managed 3.03 shots per game, compared to 3.10 the previous season - not a material difference, in my opinion at least. So he wasn't too stifled that he couldn't generate opportunities - it's just that he couldn't score (9.6% vs. 14.6%). In the games I saw, the reason seemed to be that he played on the perimeter and had a hard time getting decent shots - as opposed to him focusing on defense and not on offense. This is my biggest problem with him as this was something I noticed in the previous year's playoffs. Perhaps it was a result of tough competition - perhaps it was injuries - perhaps it was effort/style. Whatever it was, it's done, and we'll see if Balej's going to be willing to do what it takes to be a successful NHLer...shortly...
