As someone who subscribes to, it'll be interesting to see if the limitations of streaming videos will be a hinderance with such a fast paced sport. It works wonderfully for baseball but every once in a while I'll get a pause in the video when the cameras pan quickly and I have a pretty new computer (over 3ghz/512mb RAM) and pretty good bandwith.
The problem for the NHL is that it conflicts with deals with for example Swedish Cable networks. Canal + pays allot of money to have lone rights to broadcast NHL in Sweden. If everyone with broadband in Sweden could watch the NHL for a fee not many would by a satelite dish from Canal +.
