Before he agreed to one year, but after the old one was wrecked, should have been the time to strike. I would think when a team is having financial trouble is when the NHL would have looked sweetest. Of course Poile may have been trying, and just not succeeded. Or, the old contract said something about being able to make it shorter if they wanted.
