while the lines were fluid after the first couple of shifts the two teams started off like this(and generally stayed pretty much like this)

blue team(team A)
with smithson alternating centering the last two lines
with vokoun(1st period) and then moir

white team(team B)
with rosa and o'reilly alternating centering different lines
with mason,then rinne in net

blue pretty much controlled the play 5 on 5 early ..(leading 2-1 after the period)..they must have outshot the white 15-5 or so...vokoun was hardly tested honestly, while mason had many more chances

just a few random thoughts to add

..robitalle and beech were head to head many times...looked like they were doing that on purpose to me...robitaille twice(maybe three times) stole the puck from beech and i have to say head to head today outplayed him slightly

..perreault...had 6 faceoffs...won all 6 cleanly(4 from johnson,2 from robitaille)...and while slow looked allright out there...assisted on the first goal(to hartenll) on a pretty little pass to the low slot..not a bad first practice for him

..scoring went something like this
1st 5:00 Hartnell from Pereault and Radulov(nice litte wrister that beat mason clean up high from the low slot)
1st 10:00 Robitaille from Pivko (and possibly yablonski)...pretty one timer from the right high slot near the faceoff circle ..caught Vokoun moving back to his left and beat him clean down low..pivko made a spin move and used his long arms to keep the puck away and made a nice pass cross ice from the left faceoff dot
1st 15:00 Hartnell on a penalty shot...(they awarded penalty shots if the defensive team took a penalty in the defensive zone)..nice little move and banged it in off mason
2nd Markov about 5 minutes in drove the net and they found him him breaking from the halfboards(think it was glenn) and he made a little nice shot and beat rinne up high

..markov looked strong...eaton looked strong...

sullivan is all over this no red line and got 2 full breakaways and two partial ones out of it...mason made two great saves on both the breakaways

vokoun did have one long breakout pass to sullivan straight up the middle all the way to the far blueline...this is going to be seen many times this year, the homerun breakout straight up the ice, because dmen get caught pinching to the sideboards

among the new drafted kids...parent looks good size with good speed, showed promise..oreilly was fast, and was everywhere or tried to be.. franson did have one great interception in the neutral zone to prevent a breakout pass, but to be fair to the kid he was pretty well guarding kariya all night and it would have been hard for him to look too good...todd got hammered about three times with good hits, but has good size

the nonroster guys...rosa is small but has good speed, might well make the milwaukee team..bonni is a big guy,who looks like he might stick in milwaukee..glenn actually looked decent in addition to picking up an assist

among prospects...radulov,of course looked dangerous..upshall did nothing exceptionally good or bad...meidl was on a line that got hammered around pretty good, hard to tell.. segal showed off strength and laid one great hit on upshall.. zanon was quiet i thought(not always bad for a dman)

some big good hits;
hordichuk crushed todd once
segal hammered upshall
upshall hammered segal
weber hammered upshall
upshall got todd once
yablonski tried to hammer anyone close but didn't have much luck at it

now something happened to kariya late that hurt to a scrum down low either franson tripped him or someone slashed him or the puck hit him on the front part of his left ankle...was really in a lot ofpain and could barely make it back to the bench..trainers were all over him for the rest of the day...he kept pointing to the front part of his left ankle to them and to teammates....but he half limped out on the ice on the shootout drills..and promptly nailed one skating half speed

the shootouts went like this
1)upshall....good move, good wrister up high scores on rinne
2)robitaille...5hole try blocked by moir
3)sully...5 hole try blocked by rnne
4)kariya....skates in nails a wrister gloveside high beats moir
5)radulov...great crossover move hammers it off rinne high then off the post
6)erat...good move tries to beat moir gloveside, great catch by moir
7)hartnell... blocked wide stick side
8)johnson...blocked wide stickside
9_beech..nice little move beats rinne up top
10)eaton...tries the 6 hole stomach shot

so we went 3 for 10

as long as kariya isn't really hurt, this was a fun day
