Perhaps a one year contract might make the most sense, in order for him to show he's a solid starting goalie, but if so, that should be at least at 1.5 million or so per season. Or perhaps a deal with team options given certain performances, eg 30+ wins, 0.910+ save percentage, >2.5 GAA, etc etc.
I'm sure the Sens would be happy to have Raycroft when he becomes a UFA which appears to be in 2008. And I'm sure there are lots of teams who would love to have Razor as their goalie, so the Bruins should really lock him down, so he doesn't get away, like Berard did in 2003.
A million and a half is pretty close to where the B's are at.
All told, not really in disagreement with you. It's just that the guy has only one year under the belt and he's saying a 150% raise is not good enough. Cripes, it's not like we're talking a 3 year deal at slave-labor rates. Instead it's 1-yr at a reasonable sum. Too bad about the DiPietro contract, it makes things messy.
BTW - Berard was no real loss. His gifted offensive play was handicapped by his defensive lapses. Definitely wasn't worth the $2.5 mil or whatever it was.
