2011-2012 NEW YORK RANGERS
Try to do the RB proposed trade sending Christ for Fistric to Dallas. If not possible, sign a "Vet" (Eminger, Lepisto) on D. Save some cap space for deadline acquisitions.
Sign the 3 remaining RFAs (Boyle, Cally, Dubi) to somewhere close to the below supposed contracts.
Wolski, Avery & Prust are in contract years. I expect big things from all three.
Sign Vinny Prospal on a one year deal. If Kreider had signed and/or we had kept Grachev around I would have been against this. Now, I think it is the right thing to do. Pairing him with Fedotenko and Stepan on a 3rd line would bring both skill and terrific hockey sense here. Keep his minutes down early and rotate the spares (Rupp and Mitchell) in and out of the lineup. MZA might become a cap casualty for the starting roster, but I see him as an important piece as first injury callup to add offensive creativity, pending he has added a bit of strength and speed this summer. I think Mitchell is a better option as a pressbox spare. But both may very well be Whalepackers to start the year...
MDZ can (if he does not blow us away at camp) start off in Hartford and try find his game at both ends of the ice at a little lower pace. McD and/or Sauer might experience sophomore slumps and both Erixon and Valentenko are rookies - meaning there will be probable room and cause for callups on D as well, notwithstanding injuries. The guy just turned 21 (so he can now finally drink legally

) last month. I see him as a part of the future core or being traded this year. This will be a big year for him...
Gives us some nice options as callups (being waiver exempt will be a factor here) and some prorated capspace that can be mighty handy to have at the deadline to make some late acquisitions for missing pieces.
I think this is a team fighting for the 4 - 7 spot in the East. Not quite SC ready, but getting close...
