No, that's what Bonk should have been good for. Unfortunately, he never quite lived up to his potential. In my view, we need somebody fearless to stand in front of the net and take a beating in order to score. The job is partly physical and partly psychological. I agree that Chara is too valuable elsewhere, as impressive a presence as he is in that role. Even if he never got injured by a shot, the pounding he would take over the course of a season would likely take away from other elements of his game eventually. But if not him, then who? I don't know enough about McGratton, but my guess is that his hands are best used for other purposes. Possibilities might include: Varada, Fisher, and even Neil, who seems to have a knack for banging in loose pucks when he finds himself in the right place. I know he doesn't score many goals, but most of the ones he has scored have been within a foot or two of the crease. I don't ever remember him being tried on the powerplay.
