Most teams don't care about the cap that much because they never hit it. They care about the actual money they pay. Giving a player more money up front means he will have additional value beyond his real worth by year 3 or 4 of his contract.

Nobody wants to trade Dubinsky now, but who knows what will happen in a few years. It's never bad to have players with extra value.
RFA vs UFA years, the latter are more expensive.
