Kesler was better than Toews last year. When you win a Stanley Cup the Conn Smythe a gold medal--voted a top forward at the Olympics plus finish as a Selke finalist I think they count all that stuff. Toews at #5 is fair and a good year at #3 is fair as well. He will need to build on his career best in points in order to keep the spot. I think Toews deserves to be ahead of Kesler because he had back to back excellent years. Kesler had his first outstanding year, but it takes many solid years to crack the top five.

Niklas Backstom had an off year and was listed at #15...normally he would be a top ten. It just takes consistency and that is obviously factored in these scores.
