Hockey aside, and by that I mean everything hockey related with Z (skills, team work, practice etc.), making sure you understand what is asked of you by your employer was Z's responsibility. If he had had trouble with that, he should not have come back for another season. Or should have arranged for an interpreter.

We have examples of Malkin and BOB who do not speak English and are way ahead of Z in comprehension.

Also my parents, who had come here at the age of 62 learned English enough to live independently and communicate with doctors, car mechanics, government workers; so, no, Z does not get a pass from me for poor English comprehension.
