We'll pick a spare defenseman who played big minutes in all situations, a guy who is defense-first, with decent puck moving skills.

Paul Martin, D

Martin has averaged 23:22 in the regular season and 24:42 in the playoffs over the course of his career for very good defensive teams.

He played for Team USA in the 2004 World Cup, 2005 and 2008 World Championships.

He was expected to be one of the US's top 2 defensemen in the 2010 Olympics (along with Ryan Sutter), but couldn't play due to injury.
