It makes a lot of sense depending on what the rangers are trying to do with this year. if Sather is willing to miss the playoffs again, they can sit by while kovalev and carter continue to fail. they have 3 assists between them so far...right? kovalev is on a one year deal and if he stinks it up all year then the rangers could let him go. but that still leaves the season all stunk up. Kovalev not producing, Bure hurt, Carter not working out, Lindros hurt again. On the other hand Sather could get Jagr and make an attempt to win this year. I can see 3 possible deals.

Kovalev and Carter for Jagr.
Kovalev and Carter just about equal Jagr's check for this year and the caps may offer to pay some of Jagr salary after this season.

Kovalev and Kasparitis for Jagr.
The Caps need a defenseman and are willing to take Kaspar's contract in return for the Rangers taking Jagr's.

Kovalev, Carter and Kasparitis for Jagr and Bondra.
If the Caps are purging long term Cap veterans, this might happen.
I think its the least likely.
