The Flyers have invited Michael Nylander to camp on a tryout. This isn't coincidence. Nylander helped Jaromir Jagr put up some very decent numbers when both played in Washington and with the Rangers.

Nylander will turn 39 this October. He's not young, but ...

In 2002-03, Nylander had 56 points and Jagr had 77 as Caps, working together. In 2005-06 as a Ranger, Jagr scored 54 goal with 123 points, working lots of times with Nylander. Jagr had 96 points the next season ('06-07). Nylander's stats for those two years were 79 points and 83 points respectively.

So Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren is hoping Nylander and Jagr can click again?

"Partly," Holmgren told "Michael is a good player and he wants to try and earn a spot."

It won't be easy. Bill Guerin was a very good player last fall and didn't make the cut in camp.

Nylander played briefly in Rochester last season. He suffered a severe spinal injury last October in the AHL which curtailed his NHL career as a Cap.
