Did you even watch Nintendo's E3 presentation at all, and look at all the 3rd parties they had lined-up? However, it pans out in the end, it's clear that Nintendo is trying hard to regain a lot of the core market that they lost with the Gamecube and Wii. I mean, look at the choice of 3rd party games that they had demoed for the WiiU at E3. It's clear at least that Nintendo's marketing focus has shifted a bit for the WiiU.

As for what it has to do with the PS3 - the WiiU will be, for some unknown period of time, the most powerful console on the market. Depending on when Sony and Microsoft release their next consoles and how their specs compare. In Sony's case, I haven't heard anything about the PS4 arriving anytime soon. So for a certain segment of the market who always want to have the most powerful console available, and who currently have PS3s, they may be tempted to get a WiiU.
