I keep hearing from readers accusing the Penguins of being less than forthright about Crosby, or even of outright lying. Sorry, I'm not there. When I asked Lemieux and coach Dan Bylsma and, really, just about everyone at this event what they knew about Crosby, the shrugs were genuine. They don't know. Crosby isn't communicating with them much and, when he does, he apparently isn't sharing much.
Stop and think about this for a moment: The head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins couldn't tell anyone yesterday if his captain, the NHL's preeminent player, was skating or not.
"I really don't know," Bylsma said.

Penguins co-owner Mario Lemieux and coach Dan Bylsma said Tuesday they communicated recently with team captain Sidney Crosby and expressed cautious optimism that he will be ready for the start of training camp next month.
Crosby hasn't played since Jan. 6 because of a concussion.
Lemieux, speaking at the team's alumni golf tournament at Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray, said he talked with Crosby by phone two weeks ago.
"I'm sure he's doing well," Lemieux said.
Bylsma, who talked with Crosby within the past week, said the Penguins are "hoping for Sidney to come back in and be ready to go for camp."
