I definitely envy Atlanta for having guys like Kovalchuk and Heatley. They simply are the luckiest franchise in the NHL right now. Those two selections could've easily been Dipetro and Svitov. But they lucked out. They won the lottery in 2001 and picked Kolachuk instead of picking at #3. In 2000, dumb@ss Milbury picked Dipeitro over Heatley. Apparently, Waddell would've picked Depeitro had Healtley been gone.

Meanwhile, we are ALWAYS stuck picking right after all the franchise players have been taken.

For that, I am envious.

Obviously, the Heatley situation puts a damper on thier luck. Although you could say it was only by luck that Heatley survived that crash.

It should be interesting to watching Kovalchuk this year. It is his contract year. If he scores 50+ goals, there's no telling what kind of money he will demand. Also, I'm a little bit worried about this kid away from the ice. From many accounts, he is a wild, wild child. I see a potential for legal trouble.
