Kariya Could Be Back Next Week

The Colorado Avalanche could have forward Paul Kariya back in the lineup sooner than they expected.

Kariya suffered a sprained right wrist in Tuesday's loss to the Boston Bruins when he was hit by defenceman Nick Boynton. Originally, the team said he would be out of the lineup a few weeks. However, further medical tests on Thursday revealed the injury is not as bad as first thought and the prognosis is Kariya could be back as early as next week.

Kariya saw his consecutive game streak snapped at 290, which was the ninth longest streak in the NHL.

Kariya's spot on the line with Joe Sakic and Teemu Selanne will be taken by newly acquired forward Steve Konowalchuk.
