Part of his argument makes sense to me. Montreal should definitely invite a few veterans to camp. How is that a bad thing?
Say they invite a defender and two forwards... What's the harm in making Emelin and Weber beat that guy out for a spot in the top seven? What's the harm in making guys like Desharnais, White, etc. fight for a spot in the top 13 forwards?
If they fail to play better than whoever gets invited, sign those guys cheap for one year and play them. The kids wouldn't have earned it anyway. If the kids are better, thank the veterans and let them go.
To top it off, it seems to me, the team is lacking a body or two up front anyway.
By my estimation, the forward depth chart is currently:
...and then has: Willsie, Blunden, Palushaj, Trotter, Leblanc (I guess), and Enqvist battling for spots as well.
Honestly, that's not exactly all-star depth. Throwing a Mike Grier in there for internal competition in camp cannot hurt anyone. May the best man win.
