No arguments here. But, conversely, just because you outscore a team does not mean you a better than they are.

If you judge it based on more goals equals better team, then yes, your evaluation of the periods works. Unfortunately, we don't live in that vaccuum. The NHL is about bounces, calls, mistakes, and many other things that factor into goal scoring. Usually the better team scores the most goals and, thus wins. I don't feel that last night was an example of that.
