Sauer had 2 hip surgeries in 2005. The hips haven't been a problem since 2005. Torn labrum in one and a birth defect in the other. The hips were corrected before Sauer was selected. He had a torn ACL and shoulder surgery in Hartford. Sauer had one or two concussions in junior. The last one was in 2006. He went to a skull readjustment doctor in Texas.

Portland Winter Hawk defenseman Michael Sauer, who suffered a concussion during training for the U.S. national junior team, has decided not to attend camp with the NHL’s New York Rangers.
“He was having some effects from that still,” Portland coach Mike Williamson says. “It’s a decision that the Rangers, Mike and his agent came to.”

Sauer went to a neurospecialist in Texas last week and received an adjustment to his skull. He says he feels a lot better and will start skating soon.

Under the knife: Defenseman Michael Sauer plans hip surgery (torn labrum) Saturday in Pittsburgh, by the doctor who performed the same procedure on his brother, NHL player Kurt Sauer. He will recuperate for an estimated eight weeks and has a remote chance of returning for the playoffs. É If the NHL has a draft, Sauer and fellow defenseman Brendan Mikkelson would be possible first-round picks. Mikkelson played in the Canadian Hockey League’s Top Prospects Game on Wednesday, and got a goal.
