No problem seeing Hodgson play the role he did last night. From the reports I read he did an outstanding job and did stand out.
Gallagher has had his own agenda for a long time here, so not surprised at all that he'd go on his usual tirade against AV. Most sensible fans will realize that it's only game 1 of the preseason, and the fact that he already looks stronger, faster and generally more NHL ready is all a good thing.
We gotta remember this is still a 21 year old who's missed a full year of his development. Most kids his age are still a year or two from being NHL ready - and that's without a lost year. And that too on a contending team where he needs to be further along in his development to make the team. Look at an organization like Detroit to see how top contenders develop their kids. You don't see 21 year old kids playing top-6 roles there. And you generally have media and fans who understand and support that there.
Looking forward to seeing Hodgson play this year. His play last night was encouraging. Maybe he wouldn't have stood out as much if he didn't play with scrubs and was counted on to be a standout. Maybe if he did play with skilled players, Gallagher would instead be arguing that Hodgson wasn't that good and was more a product of his linemates. Not an excuse you could use when he's playing next to AHLers.
