1-way (or 2-way) contracts have nothing to do with a players ability to be freely called up or sent down. All it does is define your salary. You either have an NHL and an AHL salary, or a salary that is the same regardless of where you play.

What matters is waiver eligibility. Matt Read is exempt from waivers and can therefore be sent down and recalled freely. Nodl is not exempt (fairly certain), and would therefore need to clear waivers to be sent down.
