NHL teams do not keep their top prospects on the roster to sit them in press box.

Carkner's ability to fight heavyweights will have very little impact on his ice time (particularly as a D-man) as opposed to things that he could do to actually help the team win games. In this case, the sales pitch for Carkner would focus more on him being the most willing shotblocker on the team for PK's.
