In this situation (my side is empty) I usually try to pass to myself with help from the boards. What I do is I look in the direction of my teammates (right) then pass onto the boards (left) at an angle, trying to fool the forechecker and try to get the puck bouncing back from the boards. Usually you have one forechecker on you, if it's two just dump the puck up by the boards over the blueline. Catching the puck I am moving with speed, left the forechecker behind, and can look for a better pass or a free route to their blueline.

The pass to the boards should be hard enough, so even if you can't catch it the puck should leave the defensive zone and the other team can't start a breakaway.
