I have this problem a lot. I get the puck on D, and all my forwards just BAIL up the ice, glued to the boards, and standing right next to a defender.

It is the receiver of the pass who is supposed to get themselves open and in good position, not the passer. The forwards should be making themselves a target, with their forehand facing you, making sure they aren't going to get picked off, etc. Short passes.

As a winger, I tend to skate towards my defenseman's position east-west with my blade on the ice and on my forehand. It's my responsibility to give them a target.
