In the latter, third-line centers need to be able to play the game across the entire ice surface. Not simply collect some shiny points. If he proved capable of such, Hamill would have an NHL job. And an NHL roster should not be confused with a tryout. NHL coaches choose the 20+ players for their roster who they believe will help win them the most games, period. "Surprises" are reserved for Cracker Jack boxes and Christmas morning.

Thank you. The extent to which a few fawn over fringe NHLers (or less) is odd. To be sure, the odd player benefits from a change of scenary. But performance is evaluated on the ice. Not by draft position or DOB.

Yes, NHL teams are conspiring not to pick up each others' trash.
