I look at this the same way.. its not that I or anyone who uses the word "we" as being apart of the team or structure of the organization, but as the City of Philadelphia's Hockey team. The Flyers. Our team beat your team. It is "our" team. So "We" fits as a short way of saying the "Philadelphia" Flyers. In a sense it's the team we root for, the team we buy merchandise from. Our homr team. Now its not essentially "our" team but it is the one we follow. So we dont own it but its ours. Same with the "we". Get over it. Its more a figure of speech than anything. Im sure anyone using We does not actually think he or she is a part of the actual team.
