I have been watching the Flyers since 1970. I saw the rise and fall of the Bobby
Clarke era. I saw Flocky Hockey. The Dave Poulin years. The Eric Lindros era. The
Mike Richards meltdown. And now this: the start of the Giroux era. I have not been
this excited for an opening night in probably 20 years since the death of Pelle
Lindbergh. I still remember that night when that was announced on the radio as much 9/11 or JFK's death in 1963. [ I was in Mr. Snader's earth science class when Mr Williams,
the principal announced on the intercom that the president was shot. I was sitting in the
5th row, farthest to the right, Susan S. was sitting in front of me sobbing and Mr Snader
in his thin black tie and white sweater said, " we will get through this", we haven't yet]
Though on a much lighter note. Luckily Mr. Bonehead himself Scotty Hartnell is playing
on the 3rd line. So it will at least 3-4 minutes before he takes the first bad penalty
of the game in the offensive zone for goalie interference. At least 5-6 minutes before
Walker or Carle makes a lazy pass and Bergeron intercepts and goes all alone on Bryz
and scores. Don't get me wrong, but for every 3 boneheaded plays Scotty makes he
makes one hall of fame pass or check. And to be fair, if our guys don't backcheck
or take a shift off, then Walker or Carle will ger nervous and jerky and make the bad
play. So guys please back-check; I know it is a lost art, but at least try. OK we
know Jagr isn't but that is ok for everyone else it is not. Can you hear that guys?????
