Glad to see him shoot more, but...

one of the reasons his shot totals were high in PITT was he played the PP point, and took blasts from there. Now he's in an uncomfortable position on the PP and he's not getting the shots off. Further, he's not going to get a lot of ES shots since he seems to be the focus on that line and must move the puck quickly to be effective.

So, one way to help the PP is to put Kovalev back on the right point, instead of deVries. This team has about 9-10 forwards who have received significant PP time during their careers and have needed that to be effective. With Leetch out, and with so many forwards, why not put Kovalev back in his natural, comfortable position on the right point and utilize another forward. Call it Chris Simon and have him clog the front of the net, whatever. It makes sense, and don't worry about the shorthanded chances - Leetch has had many against him, as have other great PP quarterbacks.

I'm just sick of watching players come here and try to acclimate to a new role/position. Just because you pay a guy $9 million per year doesn't mean he'll be effective in any role/position in which he plays. That's one of the primary reasons why UFAs do not work in NY. It's that simple,.
