I have to say the Campoli and Betts moves looked good. Turns out the Betts move looked too good to be true because it was. (Philly, like Chara, can break the rules infinite times and never be classed a "repeat offender". They've spent almost 50 million on-ice over the cap since it was introduced, by some calculations, but I digress) and the Campoli move was just bad luck.

To make the best of a bad situation, PG should use the club's wealth to swing deals, NOT give up picks and prospects. If Burke can land Lombardi and Franson for a bag of pucks earning 1.7 million dollars, surely we can somehow take on a bad contract to get a player. Beyond the cap room we already have, Markov must be accruing LTIR dollars and Spacek may be too. If not, let's not kid ourselves, he can be waived.

I'd sure like to see them exploit their wealth/abuse the cap more than I'd like to see them trade another Mcdonagh. Of course in the Gomez trade they did both.
