Whether the Habs are buyers or sellers at the deadline depends on a couple of things:

1) Standings. No brainer, if they have a good chance to get in, they could go after someone for second-line help.

2) Contract. Regardless of where the Habs are in the standings, I don't see them taking on a scorer who has a long term deal. It would make ZERO sense. A rent-a-player who is a UFA that summer yes, long-term deal no.

I have a hunch that Gainey will trade off specialists (Perrault, Audette) to some contender or another fro youth and picks. Let Savard work his magic with the picks and get more youth (and hopefully size) in return. The rebuilding is a long term process as Gainey well knows if he remembers anything from watching how Good Trader Sam did things.
