I don't think Smith has the skill or creativity most people associate with being in the top 6, but he does seem to have a dirty knack for finding rebounds.

That skill alone could make him a decent stand-in in any top 6.

I wouldn't expect him to stick there regularly, but we don't have too many options in terms of top 6 wingers now that Kane plays center.
