deals like this are rare in the NHL and even more rare on HF. A simple fair deal that kinda hurts both sides, at first. Typically means the value is fair.

I don't make the deal if I'm the NYI though, simply because Okposo brings more than his numbers would suggest, he's one of the few cornerstones of this rebuild and I don't like the idea of dealing him.

I think they NYI could fill that hole on defense without giving up such a core player.

Yes, they won't be able to do it by trading Colliton or DiBenedetto and a 2nd rounder - but I think the opportunity to take on a big salary, leveraging their cap space rather than losing an asset that hurts them in another area ON THE ICE is a smarter way to go.

Whether Wang will pony$$$up is another story.

But that's the better move.

It's not like the Islanders have ANY depth or any relative strengths in order to deal a key player like Okposo, approaching his prime, with a long term contract and friendly cap hit.
