You underrate their value Nuckfan.

Your "give up on him so he's not valuable" argument just doesn't wash and history has shown that. Teams will have scouted Saprykin a lot over the past few years. Teams will know just as well as Calgary fans do that he has 30+ goal scorer upside. That's why he's valuable. That's why a ton of teams would be interested in him. Everybody can see that upside if they watch him. Doesn't matter if Calgary gives up on him there will be teams lining up to give him a chance to flourish in a different situation.

And on the off chance that GM's are lowballing Sutter then we would keep Saprykin because his value is only going to go up from here.

As for Lydman, he was 13th in the league in ice time last season. I know he's not very high profile but he can eat up minutes and play a two-way game. Both Coates and Button talked about how much interest there was in Lydman before he had even come over so you know he's not an unknown to scouts from opposing teams (he was named the top defensemen in Finland the year before he came over.) Sutter recently signed him to a substantial 3 year deal. He's valuable and there's no way we part with him without getting back a significant asset.
