Highly disagree with you there...we don't use the curve as a crutch but because it fits our game. I have no trouble raising a puck with a flat blade, but it requires a different technique than when I use an open blade, and with an open blade, I can cup the puck more and lean into the stick, getting more power on my shots. Same thing with the rockered heel and toe; I can use a higher lie and get more puck contact while shooting, which translates to harder and more accurate shots.

Now I agree that you should learn on a neutral blade with a mild curve, but really the Sakic is a fairly mild curve just with some loft and a bigger rocker to it. I shoot more similar with a Sakic to a Zetterberg than I do with a Sakic to a Coffey for instance.
