It seems like the way the OP laid this one out that the better question would be is Giroux a candidate for the best player in the game at the moment.

And I think that if that's the case you would have an argument that right now, he's playing at a level that has him as one of the best performers in the league. Will that be the case over a full year, no. Too many other stars aren't playing their best hockey yet, but at this time I think he's playing as good as anyone in the league.
