As I said. It's tough to maintain such a large system, but I've seen other cities do it better. Never been to Ottawa, but Montreal's is much better in comparison.

Montreal metropolitan area size: 1,644 sq. mi.
NYC metropolitan area size: 6,720 sq. mi.

Tough to compare the two fairly given the massive differentials in size and population of their respective metropolitan areas.
