even without sullivan, we can beat this bunch tonight.. we're faster than they are up and down the lineup.. we have as much grit as they do, and we have much better goaltending..

some will cry "wah wah, we never beat LA", and they're right, we never used to beat them. but this is not the same LA team that used to be able to control and cycle the puck down low on us at will. Jason Allison used to own us, Luc Robitaille used to own us, Ziggy Palfrey used to own us... but they're not kings anymore.. this is a much less physical bunch of forwards than we have seen from them..

Labarbera saved them in the first game this year, he won't be in net tonight.

We had success grinding the puck with stevenson and hordichuk and upshall and johnson last game, but the pp failed us in that game (we were 0 for 5, including not scoring on that crucial 5 minor major against avery that would have iced the first game). Luckily, our pp is showing signs of life right now. And trotz having really moved sully to the 2nd pp unit these last few games, means that his absence shouldn't really kill us on the pp tonight.

Tonight is a game i fully expect Vokoun to step up and limit them to a goal or two, we just have to find a way to put three up on the board.

Obviously, this is an important game. It's important because it's the last game of a homestand before we head out for a 3 game roadtrip. You want to go on that trip not on a losing note. It's important because sullivan is injured, and we don't know for how long, and the way you avoid your team feeling down over an injury to a key player is prove to yourself that you can win without them. It's important because we have never had success against LA, and it's very likely we'll have to play them in the playoffs on down the road. It's important because LA will probably win the Pacific this year and is truly one of the top 5 teams in the west.

now somebody go out there and find a way to win.

going into game 17 tonight, the two most startling statistics on the pred scoresheet;

hartnell with a plus/minus of +8
kariya with a plus/minus of -6

unofficially, expect sullivan to miss "significant time" with this groin strain reoccurance... two weeks the first time, with a re-injury this soon upon return, makes me think they'll sit him a minimum of another week and a half, which would be tonight's game + the three game road trip..

i personally don't expect to see sullivan back until possibly the 24th in the first home game after the trip in the next game against LA at the earliest..

this after talking to a guy who talked to david boclair of the Murfreesboro paper
