Why does replacing a bunch of decent role players (and Scott), all of whom make $600K or so, put the Hawks in "cap hell". Any prospect who comes up will be on an ELC, most of whom will have a cap hit between $500-$800K. How is that a problem?

The Hawks have the cap space to significantly "upgrade" two roster spots, or add an elite player. That could be getting a real scoring line forward with a physical game to push either/or Carcillo/Stalberg to a bottom 6 role, or upgrade a guy like Lepisto to a legit 4/6 type d-man.
